The Fool
TAROT AND ASTROLOGY - THE FOOL
So if we start anywhere it’s at the beginning.
The Fool is the first card of the tarot deck - the beginning. It’s numerology is a 1 and it represents the element of air and has a correspondence with Uranus the planet of change.
It is debatable as to whether the fool corresponds to any astrological sign - some use Aries as it is the beginning and first sign of the zodiac, however I tend to think of the fool as representing all sign as as any direction can be chosen and the path is literally wide open. Aquarius has also been a contender here as it is an air sign ruled by Uranus and does represent innovation and freedom.
Numerology - 1 are beginnings. Newness, movement, possibilities. It is the number of creation. It is the birth of the new. It also signifies the self (another argument here for Aries as it naturally rules the first house in the horoscope which is the house of self). It is leadership but mostly of the self. It is about taking a leap of faith and believing in the unknown - however it also about believing in oneself and ones abilities to succeed.
Uranus represents change - mostly unexpected. He is the great awakener. He rules over innovation, independence and freedom. He likes to be given the right to choose. he does not wish to be contained by rules and regulations - he is a rebel and does what he wants to do. He may even bring unexpected events into your path which create a fork in the road and therefore an unexpected new adventure.
So the fool is the start of a new journey. The beginning with no clear end in sight. The step into the great unknown (he is often depicted stepping or falling off a cliff). A leaf of faith into unchartered territory.
The fool is about adventure - to bravely go where one has not gone before. A disruption to the routine and a break from the norm. Sometimes the rug from under our feet is gone and we are faced with a void in which courage and faith are tested to move forward.
PERSONAL NOTES
From as astrological point of view it may be interesting to look at Uranus in your own natal chart and see where this energy and area of life may be affected. I pulled this card myself today as I was trying to decide how to approach this topic as I wish to write a series on the tarot deck and explore the cards as I learn. Did I start with Major Arcana or did I go through randomly with a daily card pull and see what I get. I got my answer - start at the beginning!
My natal Uranus is in the 5th house in Libra. So this is my creative (5th) house and Libra is my relationship with you dear reader! SO I hope you like my approach and I will be adding to this series over time.
